Materials & Care
Gold Vermeil:
Gold vermeil is a technique of plating gold over sterling silver. All of our vermeil pieces are plated in 18 karat gold.
All gold vermeil jewelry should be removed before bathing, showering, swimming or working out. Avoid applying or spraying any products, lotions, perfumes, hairspray or chemicals when wearing the jewelry as this can cause tarnishing to happen more quickly.
Tarnishing and wear are natural and will happen over time. To polish or lightly clean your jewelry use a 100% cotton cloth or microfiber cloth. Should you ever wish to re-plate your piece we are happy to assist. Contact us at info@jdaobjects.com to request a quote.
Sterling Silver:
Sterling silver is an alloy containing 92.5% by weight of silver and 7.5% by weight of other metals, usually copper.
It is best not to swim, bathe or shower while wearing the jewelry as this will cause it to tarnish more quickly. To preserve the surface longer, store in a cloth bag. Wearing the jewelry often actually also helps prevent tarnishing.
Sunshine polishing cloths, which are available online, can be used to remove light tarnish. We like the blue ones for silver. For more substantial tarnishing, liquid jewelry cleaner for sterling silver can be used. This can be found at jewelry stores or can be ordered online.
Brass:
Similar to sterling silver, brass will also tarnish and patina over time and as it is worn. Slight darkening is normal. Do not swim, bath or shower while wearing the jewelry. It is best to remove it when washing hands as well. Store your brass jewelry in a cloth bag and away from other jewelry to prevent scratching and tarnishing. Sunshine cloths are also good for polishing and freshening up brass surfaces.
